A Chinese legend tells of the monster Nian, eating humans once a year. The only way to escape from it was to frighten the Nian, terrorizing him with the color red and loud noises. And with red, a symbol of prosperity and good fortune and the sound of drums and giant cymbals , the Chinese community celebrates the Lunar New Year.
The festivities conclude in the evening, with the flight of the traditional colored lanterns, to wish a year of good luck.
“FU DAO LE” (Luck has arrived).
