Colors   Leave a comment

“If somebody ask me: What does it mean the words Red, Blue, Black, White? Certainly we can point to the objects of such colors.

But our ability to explain the real meaning of these words, doesn’t go far beyond”.

– Ludwig Wittgenstein –

Defining colors is not an easy exercise.

Colors are differently felt according time, space and cultures.

Every culture feels and defines colors according to its environment, history, knowledge and traditions.

Passing the centuries, the color has been defined as a “material”; after as “light”…. and nowdays, as a “feeling”.

Therefore, the history of colors is, above all, a social history.
